Synopsis
The year 2004 marked the 400th anniversary of the installation of the Adi Granth at the Darbar Sahib in Amritsar, a moment of immense significance in Sikh history. This milestone represented the culmination of a spiritual tradition set in motion by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who travelled widely, singing hymns in praise of the One Reality, Ik Onkar, which he understood as the supreme truth.
That tradition reached its final form in 1708, when Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the Tenth Guru, declared the Guru Granth Sahib to be the eternal Living Guru of the Sikhs, issuing the command: “All Sikhs are given the command, own the Granth as your Guru.”
This beautifully illustrated commemorative volume traces the journey of the sacred hymns from their composition to their compilation, offering both historical insight and visual richness. More than a record of texts, the book evokes the profound spiritual energy contained within the Guru Granth Sahib, making it a meaningful work for readers seeking to understand its history, significance, and enduring presence in Sikh life.
