This book includes newspaper reports from the Calcutta Gazette, Madras Courier, Kentish Gazette and the Oxford Journal from 1784 to 1799. You will not find this book anywhere else. ⠀
Extracts from the Introduction:⠀⠀⠀
⠀
"To provide some context the newspaper extracts start in March 1784. It was only the previous year, in March 1783, that Delhi was subjugated by the combined forces of Baghel Singh Karorsinghia, Jassa Singh Ahluwalia and Jassa Singh Ramgharia.⠀⠀
⠀
Although the period after this is marked by numerous invasions by the Durrani’s, by the end of the century the consolidation of power under the Sikhs is about to come to fruition.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
It is the short time period between 1784 and 1799 which is covered by the various newspaper extracts included in this book. As expected, all of the extracts include a mention of the Sikhs and Umrootsar and Lahore also crop up. Alongside this the Nawab of Oudh and Zaman Shah are mentioned most often."⠀⠀⠀
The book conforms to the digest dimensions of 5.5 x 8.5 in / 140 x 216 mm and 40 pages.
This is just the first in the series of books I will be publishing that catalogue British newspaper reports regarding the Sikhs.
