“Adi Birh Bare” was written by Professor Sahib Singh of Khalsa College, Amritsar, during 1949-1950 and revised in April 1951. Unpublished until 1970, Singh Brothers, Amritsar, finally published it. The reluctance to publish stemmed from the prevailing traditional beliefs about the compilation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib by Guru Arjan Dev. Historical tampering by Narinjanias around 1675 A.D. led to corrupted copies, which continued until printed versions from the original manuscript emerged in the 19th century. Singh’s research, partially published in “Punjabi Duniya” in 1953-54, received little attention. The book’s translation was driven by Professor Noel Q. King of California University, who praised Singh’s meticulous work. The translation, rearranged for clarity, includes additional sections on Singh’s life, a summary, and Sikhism. The translation was vetted and supported by Dr. Darshan Singh Bhatia, ensuring clarity and comprehension.
Dalip Singh, the translator, acknowledges the contributions of Professor King and Dr. Bhatia in bringing this work to a wider audience.
