Both, attack all kinds of determinism and totalitarianism. While postmodern thinkers like Bataille, Foucault, Derrida, Lyotard, Deleuze, Guattari, Boudieu, Rorty, Geertz, Irigaray have, through their works, attacked the epistemic rationalist enterprise of the West that eliminates the difference of the Other/Subject. The main challenge before the postmodernism was to liberate the subject and the human beings from all types of Oedipal. The Sikh Gurus, although their texts were written in a different period in which the sultan/emperor was the central governing figure, evolved the concept of Sahaja to liberate the individuals from the Oedipal or the despotic ruler. To counter the territorializing strategies of then dominant classes, the Gurus established a God who is creative, libidinal and wonderous, is not a rational sign. The Gurus’ collective effort was not only transforming individual psyche, but transforming a cultural psyche from repression to celebrative of other’s difference. For this the Guru used multiple strategies. This work traces the central themes of postmodernism and Sikhism: liberation of humankind and living in co-existential/sahaja of others difference.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0512/0570/1796/files/sikhism-and-postmodern-thought-by-gurbhagat-singh-9190046.jpg?v=1756601446
bhai-jaita-s-sri-gur-katha-by-neeti-singh
Bhai Jaita’s Sri Gur Katha by Neeti Singh

Bhai Jaita's Sri Gur Katha provides substantial reading on both the author and the text. We bring to you. In English, an excellent translation of the little known epic poem of Bhai Jaita (also known as Bhai Jivan Singh) from the 17"' century battle- fields of Punjab. A foreword by Professor Raj Kumar Hans constructs an informed and scholarly framework around the text, in terms of Sikh history, ideology and dalit Dynamics, then and now. An introduction by the translator speaks of the scholarship potential the Katha holds as a source text for historians, anthropologists, social scientists and researchers in religious and literary studies. In the larger context of Gurbani and Bhakti poetics, the Srl Gur Katha emerges as a text furnished by local and transnational poetic traditions which in turn were influenced by the dust-storms of religious confluence and conflict. Of this, the Katha text is both an expression and an extension; as on the one hand it subsumes and shifts stylistic and substantial boundaries and, on the other, culls new strategies and dynamics into the poetics of mystic and militant verse writings in Punjabi.

You can check out my book review on this book, here.

Specifications

- Hardback
- ISBN: 81-7205-543-9
- Edition(s): Aug-2015 1st
- Pages: 143

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0512/0570/1796/files/bhai-jaitas-sri-gur-katha-by-neeti-singh-3644729.jpg?v=1756601045
the-first-punjab-war-by-p-k-nijhawan
The First Punjab War by P.K. It rings into focus the Rajasthani documents, which are basically found in archival form in Rajasthan State Archives, Bikaner. The authors of these documents belonged to a rare breed of Vakils, who like the present-day diplomats, represented the Rajput Rajas at the Mughal court. On the basis of their observations they submitted regular reports to their masters which may be called dossiers in the modern sense. Evidence offered by them is unique as it does not carry the sectarian bias which is the hall-mark of contemporary Mughal chronicles. Rather it unfolds the Rajasthani perspective on the Sikh struggle against the Mughal Empire under the stewardship of Banda Singh Bahadur. This study is based upon the reports written by eyewitnesses to the events. Some of the reports carry graphic account of the battlefield and even reveal the crisis within the Mughal army. These documents divulge the nature and extent of Sikh uprising and throw fresh light on some of the lesser-known facets of Banda Singh Bahadur. These dossiers from the pen of Rajasthani Vakils are of immense value to understand the military strategy and diplomacy during the suppression of the Sikh struggle by the Mughal Empire. These documents also bear testimony to the fact that Banda Singh Bahadur desired to forge an alliance with the Rajput Rajas with a view to liberate the country from the Mughal yoke.

You can check out my book review on it here.

Specifications

- Hardback

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0512/0570/1796/files/rajasthani-documents-on-banda-singh-bahadur-by-balwant-singh-dhillon-dr-7109464.jpg?v=1756601045
sri-dasam-granth-sahib-questions-answers-by-g-s-mann-and-kamalroop-singh
Sri Dasam Granth Sahib: Questions & Answers by G.S. The present study seeks to elaborate and explore the nature of the Western perspective on the Sikh religion, focusing on its distinctive features. It aims at bringing out the contribution of the western writers to the understanding of the Sikh tradition and faith. Being a study of the non-participant outsider's perspective from the participant insider's point of view it assumes the form of dialogue.

The process of image formation when differing communities interact has also been discussed at some length, keeping in view the intentions, motivations and relative status of interacting groups. It also describes the development and inner dynamism of the Western Perspective on Sikhism. A survey on Western writings introduces the reader to the Western perspective. In the subsequent chapter it examines the Western understanding of the Sikh tradition and Sikh faith. The creation of the Khalsa in 1699 as a political community with the aspiration to rule made conciliation or compromise with the Mughal state almost impossible. The spectrum of this genre of literature has several strands. It elucidates mystic concepts of spiritual elevation, provides the earliest exegesis of the hymns of Guru Nanak; and illustrates the teachings of Guru Nanak by narrating interesting anecdotes. The most significant aspect of the Janamsakhi literature is that it has preserved the tradition of Guru Nanak’s life that become the primary source of information for all the writings on Guru Nanak. Of late the historical validity of this material has been called to question in the name of methodology. The author analyses the Janamsakhi material extensively and deciphers the historical contents in this tradition. They shed light on a forgotten moment in Anglo-Indian history during which Indian artists responded to European influences while keeping intact their own artistic visions and styles. These artists represent the last phase of Indian artistic genius before the onset of the twin assaults - photography and the influence of western colonial art schools - ended an unbroken tradition of painting going back two thousand years.
